Since 1974, Monroe Tire & Service has provided tire and automotive services to the Cleveland County area. Doug Monroe started the business in uptown Shelby with one bay, one floor jack, one wrench and a bubble balancer. Talk about humble beginnings!
In 1987, Doug’s son Chris partnered in the business after working most summers in the shop growing up. As a second generation facility we have grown to offer more than tires! Today we are a fully staffed ASE certified service facility that not only specializes in tires, but automotive services for most makes and models. With 8 service bays and the latest in diagnostic and alignment equipment, we are prepared for the next generation of vehicles.
However, as important as it is to have the right tool for the job, our people are what make the difference! Our focus is making your service experience simple and efficient.
Meet the Team
Chris Monroe
Owner
Chris Monroe, owner of Monroe Tire & Service, is a Shelby native and has grown up in the tire and auto repair business. His father, Doug Monroe, started the business in 1974, and Chris has been involved ever since. A product of Shelby High and East Tennessee State, Chris loves people and has a passion for most anything with an engine!
According to Chris, the most important ingredient in any business is the folks that make it happen every day. The consistent level of experience and dedication that our team provides insures piece of mind for our motoring friends.
When Chris is not working on his business, he enjoys traveling, cycling and motorcycling. He is able to combine these three interests working in professional cycling as a motorcycle driver for several premier magazines.
Doug Jones
Store Manager
Doug Jones, born and raised in Charlotte, NC, is a very pleasant and upbeat gentleman who loves working with the public! He always has a smile and a kind word for everyone. He has been noted by those that know him as someone “full of mischief.”
Doug has a combined total of 43 years in the automotive service industry, having spent more than 19 years with Nissan. He has been the store manager at Monroe Tire & Service since 2000. He has a lifetime of experience as a certified service advisor and is a great asset to Monroe Tire.
Doug is an avid car enthusiast and especially loves muscle cars and car shows. Doug and Diana have been together for 14 years and love to travel, go to the flea market, and dance. Doug has two grown children, one son and one daughter, as well as two grandsons in the area.
Tim Smolzer
Service Advisor
Tim Smolzer is originally from Chicago, IL and has been a car enthusiast since he was four years old. He remembers helping his dad fix the family car, and it has been love ever since! He has worn many hats in the automotive industry, working in both independent shops and big-box retail chains. His knowledge of automotive parts, commitment to detail and drive to exceed customer expectations are his biggest strengths.
Tim and his lovely wife Kelly have three boys that keep them on the go with sports, scouting and church. He works with scouts and assists in organizing “shop night” for the local scout troops at Monroe Tire & Service.
When it’s time to relax, he enjoys working with wood and home renovation as well as anything sports related—go Cubbies!!
